Solberg extends championship lead with Lydden Hill victory
iON athlete Petter Solberg extended his championship lead with a commanding victory at the UK round of the World RX Championship (http://www.rallycrossrx.com/index ).
The home of British RallyX, Lydden Hill (http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk/), provided the scene of the action. Solberg did not disappoint his UK fans who had seen him take victory in Wales Rally GB no less than four times in a row between 2002 and 2005.
In a display of fast and sideways driving Solberg won both heats on day one of the event before notching up another victory in Sunday’s first semi-final. He then lined up in pole position for the final and most important race of the weekend.
A race long battle with Mattias Ekström ended with a sensational final lap when Solberg jumped out of the joker lap just in front of Ekström’s Audi. Petter employed his defensive tactics for the remainder of the lap to take victory by less than half a second.
